finding your enneagram type

This post is an encouragement for those of you who have had any difficulty discovering which of the 9 Enneagram types from which you lead. My personal typing journey has been a winding road that led me to work this past year with a spiritual director trained in the Enneagram to help me land confidently in my dominant Enneagram type and subtype.
For those of you who have yet to work with the Enneagram, I’d just like to say that the typing process is a rich part of the journey to better understanding ourselves. Just a few brief bits for you regarding type:
We are one dominant Enneagram type for life- even through our maturity and growth.
Online tests can be a fine place to begin, yet they are not always accurate. Sometimes we answer questions the way we’d like to see ourselves or be seen by others. Sometimes our blindspots keep us from seeing ourselves very accurately.
Work with the subtypes can sometimes help us land our types if we’re having difficulty locating our core motivations and type.
Some people can identify quickly with their dominant Enneagram type. Others take a longer journey to type. Both are okay.
It is your work alone to determine your type, as it is an inside job. I can help guide people to their type through a typing process, but it’s you who has lived your life, and it’s you who determines your core personality type.
