Many times on our Pilgrimage, a life force opens up a particular space for us and invites us to walk into it. Some call this life force the Universe, others, Spirit, I call this source, God. I’ve experienced God create, invite, and hold a space for me several times in my life. One particular time was running a marathon. Working full-time, raising 10 year old twins, and somehow, someway, God created, invited, and held space for me to train for and run the Chicago Marathon in 2009. Hours and hours of jogging…and I wasn’t even a runner before I began that training! It was as if there was just this sacred assignment, a holy expansion of time and schedule, a motivation, discipline, and added measure of grace given in order to participate on an appointed journey. The same is true for me with the Camino de Santiago. The more I stepped into this experience…both prior to Spain and in Spain…the more I recognized that I had not picked the Camino, but the Camino had picked me. This space was being created for me and graciously held open for hours and hours of walking, listening, observing, questioning, grieving, healing, celebrating. The question: Could I be as open to receiving the lessons God had for me along the way? When have you experienced this space open for a kind of sacred assignment in your life?
